It took me many years after my year-long deployment in Iraq to realize I had changed. It took me a lot less time to realize that I could heal, but that came after most of the damage had been done.
I wrote “Life After Loyalty” as part of my therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I never thought any of my experiences in the Army were traumatic enough to lead to PTSD. I never knew the small differences in my life were actually the effects of anxiety. This book explores all of the small things that happened during my deployments that caused subtle changes to my personality and mentality.
Many thanks to the War Writers’ Campaign. They are a non-profit aiming to help veterans tell their stories, but then to return the proceeds to programs to help veterans.
